Projects
Ongoing R&D projects
- dTHOR (EDF)+
Digital Ship Structural Health Monitoring
The project “Digital Ship Structural Health Monitoring” (dTHOR) will develop a system based on innovative utilization of large amounts of load and response measurements from robust and advanced sensors, a digital framework complying with recognised open standards for data exchange, and hybrid analysis and modelling which combines physics-based and data-driven models. dTHOR will consolidate end-users military operational requirements based on improved battle damage and structural integrity assessment, reduced hydro-acoustic signatures, and more accurate operation of weapon systems.

- EDINAF (EDF)+
European Digital Naval Foundation
The project “European Digital Naval Foundation” (EDINAF) will enable the integration of a joint naval operational cloud as a component into the broader military multidomain operations cloud. EDINAF will work on an IT infrastructure and associated data interface standards (edge and cloud computing). It will support the design and the creation of next generation smart vessels and gather the European supply chain around a common standard applicable to equipment manufacturing and to future naval operations.

- DAIS (HORIZON 2020)+
Distributed Artificial Intelligent Systems
DAIS approach is to develop intelligent, secure and trustworthy systems for industrial applications to provide comprehensive cost and energy-efficient solutions of intelligent, end to-end secure, trustworthy connectivity and interoperability to bring the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence together. Jotne’s role is to create new technology for the Digital Industry where new sensor technology will be using AI algorithms to smarter support the workers and increase safety.
- 5G-TIMBER (HORIZON EUROPE)+
Secure 5G-Enabled Twin Transition for Europe's TIMBER Industry Sector
5G-TIMBER will increase the productivity of the European wood industry, reduce waste material, and increase the production safety through innovative and smart technology such as 5G, AR and Digital Twins. Jotne’s role in the project is to lead the integration of technological innovations for the industry pilots. Jotne will also be responsible for the Open Standards Based Digital Twin repository, in addition to standardization activities.
- ABSolEU (HORIZON EUROPE)+
Paving the way for an ABS recycling revOLution in the EU
ABSolEU is developing novel methods for recycling and traceability of ABS plastics over the material life cycle through innovative methods for ABS recycling.
ABSolEU aims to pave the way to circularity for the ubiquitous plastic ABS and develop innovative technology for the physical recycling of wABS, providing virgin ABS reintroduced into the value chain.
Jotne contribute to realization of project goals through extensive PLM knowledge and -tools, implementing material traceability functionality. - FAIRWork (HORIZON EUROPE)+
Flexibilization of complex Ecosystems using Democratic AI based Decision Support and Recommendation Systems at Work.
Bringing Human, AI, Data and Robotics Together
The idea behind FAIRWork is to optimize production processes. Instead of traditional hierarchical systems, FAIRWork aims to establish a democratized form of decision-making, using a decentralized AI system. A multiple optimization algorithm finds the most appropriate solution considering the needs of all involved human and technical stakeholders.
- TREEADS (HORIZON 2020)+
- FORTIFIER (NRC)+
Artificial Intelligence enhanced digital factory twins for wire harness manufacturing
The interaction between design and production planning is always a challenge, and the changes of requirements by the customer create additional uncertainty. The FORTIFIER project aims to address this obstacle by introducing digital twins for wire harness design and manufacturing. On a high level, our team will prototype the "Wire harness factory for the future", where various workflows will be integrated to support overarching objectives like exploiting next generation engineering tools, reducing time and cost of wire harness production, and at the same time increasing product quality by deploying an AI based Digital Twin for the factory.
The Fortifier project is the joint work between Norwegian and German partners to provide, ʻA next generation solution for wire harness manufacturersʼ, which has been accomplished by applying and developing further the following technologies: - Artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance Industry 4.0 based design of wire harnesses - Robotics for flexible production - Open standards of data models for industrial data to enable integration of wire harness lifecycle data - Integration of blockchain solutions for trusted and secure supply chain management.

- Arrowhead Tools (HORIZON 2020)+
New tools to help the engineering industry put IoT to smart use.
From everyday uses to large-scale industry applications, the Internet of Things (IoT) is expanding at an accelerating speed. The EU-funded Arrowhead Tools project will create advanced new digitisation and automation tools for the European engineering industry. These tools will bridge the gap that currently prevents total integration of operational technology – for example how efficiently the engineering industry is leveraging IoT and the ‘system of systems’ into its products. The project is expected to reduce the costs of developing and introducing flexible and secure digitisation and automation solutions by about 20 to 50 %. This will make Europe more competitive and create new jobs and business opportunities, while also reducing energy consumption and the environmental footprint.
